Microsoft fined $613 million in Europe

Yahoo is reporting, via the Associated Press, that Microsoft has lost its appeal of a European antitrust order.

What this means is that in Europe, Microsoft must share communications code with rivals as well as offering a copy of Windows that does not contain the Windows Media Player. That's not all though - their pocketbooks felt quite a pinch from the ruling, with a $613 million fine being handed out.

AP wrote:

The EU Court of First Instance ruled against Microsoft on both parts of the case, saying the European Commission was correct in concluding that the world's biggest software company was guilty of monopoly abuse in trying to use its power over desktop computers to muscle into server software.

    Stop hating Microsoft.. We're all using it remember? I bet you guys get pissed off when using Linux because if behaves differently..

    Even if Linux has 100% support for all the games I would probably still be using Windows.

    Good and fine them another 6 million for even thinking of making vista..then make them recall all pre loaded machines with it and give a full refund or roll back to XP or OS of you choosing!! Revenge for the Vista haters must come!! muhahaha

    Haha, BURN Micro$oft! I just wish they could think about something else than $$$profit$$$ once in a while, and actually make some quality software!

    And I just have to mention: On my brand new laptop, which came pre-loaded with a windows-installation just two weeks ago, I have already experienced FIVE BSOD's!!! (BlueScreen Of Death) PS: I haven't installed anything but WoW and TrackMania on it, so it's not my fault!
