EMPIRE IN CHAOS, written by noted Games Workshop scribe Anthony Reynolds, is now available in bookstores in North America. The epic novel follows the journey of Annaliese Jager as she escapes her destroyed village only to be swept up in an epic battle to save the Empire from the marauding forces of Chaos. Joined by an injured High Elf, a grizzled Witch Hunter, and a Dwarf Ironbreaker, she will battle along side the armies of the Empire and Dwarfs against greenskin tribes and the dreaded Chaos Raven Host. Together, this unlikely band of heroes must fight like never before to turn back the tides of darkness, or the future of the Empire is doomed.

As a lot of people seem to be a little confused over this I'm going to post up some quick Q&As. If you have other questions then please post them below and I'll try to answer them, please don't post anything else other than questions in this thread so that it's easy to find the important info.

Q: I can't log into the site, I get the 'Authentication servers are offline message'

A: Yes, you do not need to login to the site to use this page. Simply go to here and fill in your details.

Q: Who can use that page?

A: Anyone who already has a beta centre account - this means anyone who created an account to apply for the closed beta or to recieve the newsletter even if they didn't get a closed beta invite. In addition, anyone who created an account on our site yesterday and has received a confirmation email.

Q: I don't have an account yet, when will I be able to use my key?

A: We are bringing a new account centre online, at the moment we have no ETA for this but we will keep you informed via the news.

Q: I put my details in, now what?

A: All you need to do now is to wait for an email from us. This email will either confirm that your validation is complete (in which case you can log in and play) or that there was a problem with your details (in which case you need to go back and resubmit your information).

Q: Why are you doing it this way?

A: To reduce the load on the database server we have an asynchronous system. What this means is that when you put your details in, the system will store it, another system will then check it and confirm the details to you. This means the whole system is much smoother.

Q: How long before the confirmation emails arrive?

A: This will depend but the current turn around seems to vary between 1 and 2 hours.

Q: Is there a difference between the link posted today and the link posted in the news yesterday?

A: No, both are the same system.

Furthermore, the CEO of GOA also went out with an announcement.

Iain 'Requiel' Compton - English Community Manager said:

Firstly let's get the obvious stuff out of the way. Yesterday was in no way, shape or form a success. A lot of things went very wrong. Funnily enough however they didn't go wrong in the way most people thought they would or for the reasons that were being thrown around.

The website and our entire platform got hammered yesterday - which we expected. We knew how many open beta keys we'd given away and what sort of traffic to expect as a result. We got a lot more than we were expecting and yet the platform held up, the site slowed down (which was inevitable with the sheer volume of traffic, even a basic HTML page would have been slow under that onslaught) but everything stayed up. This is pretty much the big ray of sunshine that we took away, our datacentre took the onslaught and survived unscathed.

The account system broke. This wasn't down to the traffic (although that was a factor), nor the fact that the page was in Flash. There was a problem with our database server which didn't surface during testing. As you can read in the news, we have been working on this all night and we expect this to be resolved soon. Ultimately the system didn't work but we're glad we found the issue now in beta rather than before the headstart or live begins. Many of you criticised the decision to bring the account pages online the same day as the beta began but this was not the cause of the problems. While yesterday was a very painful day for us, there is a silver lining because it means that our headstart and live launch will be significantly more robust.

There was some miscommunication as well which falls entirely on us. The confusion over people with war-europe accounts not needing to create a new beta account was the main issue, other than that the team who were in the office yesterday worked very hard to keep you updated. Magnus and the other CMs who were working yesterday were in the office from 7:30am through to 3am this morning. During that time our teams were working on several different situations at once and the situation was often in a state of considerable flux. We had technical teams working on various solutions, management teams dealing with our partners and, for the most part, these people were busy fixing things rather than writing status reports that were likely to be out of date by the time they hit the CM team. Despite that, Magnus and the others posted what they had, when they had it both on the official news site and around the various fan forums.

Overall then, some things went right - not many to be sure and the important things certainly didn't. We made some mistakes, we expected many problems and we found some entirely different ones. We disappointed many of you by not letting you get into the open beta when we said you would and for that I am sorry. All of us are disappointed that we couldn't bring you the service you expected. I wasn't at work yesterday, Magnus was the man on the scene covering the situation, but I did keep a close eye on forums and was in contact with the guys in the office. A lot of what was said yesterday here and on other forums was entirely out of line. Of course you were disappointed and criticism is certainly warranted but frankly many of the posts made about the situation were borderline sociopathic. If having delayed access to a beta test really drives you to such depths of anger and fury that you felt compelled to make the death threats, racial slurs and other deeply unpleasant posts then - and there is no polite way to put this - there is something wrong with you.

Today we have a lot of people at the office who are preparing to put in a long week after a long weekend to make things right. This isn't magically going to make yesterday alright but we are very much committed to making sure that you aren't disappointed again.

Ghislaine Le Rhun, GOA CEO said:

Dear all,

I rarely address players directly, but I wanted to write you as too few of you have been able to access the open beta today.

As my team explained in the previous post, although we have opened the servers and corrected numerous issues during the last 24 hours but we have not yet solved the issue of saturated Open Beta key activations that we’re currently experiencing. I am sincerely sorry for this, and I understand all the frustration the situation has spawned.

Today was a dark day. We expected a massive influx of players, but reality was even harsher.
I personally commit that we will communicate to you as clearly as possible on the resolution of these current issues. My goal is to give Warhammer Online the success it deserves. Be ensured that all GOA teams, with Mythic’s support, are working hard to bring you the best possible game experience.

Read it all below. And don't forget to check out WARDB and Warhammer Alliance for all your information needs.

Folks,

So, while today has been incredibly stressful for our European brethren, I have lots of good news to share with all WAR fans. Here are the early results from the first day of our North American + Oceania Open Beta.

Incredibly stable game experience:
- 47K total users playing concurrently. We're not up to where DAoC was at peak yet but we're off to a good start eh? When Europe comes online we hope to shatter DAoC's numbers before we launch.

- 27 servers deployed and running smoothly. We have 23 servers in NA, 2 in OC and 2 more Test severs.

- Client CTD's are very low on average (lower than PW). However, some people seem to crash more often, primarily when exiting or entering scenarios but we're hot on the heels of this one.

- Zero, none, zilch Tier 1 region crashes since Open Beta started this morning at 7AM. No total server crashes either.

Lots of top reported issues already fixed with hot patches (no server reboot):
- PQ completion tuning. As always, tuning for now, subject to continued tuning.

- Loss of hot-bar abilities on leaving scenarios. Let us know if this still happens though.

- RvR equipment pricing, power and availability. Whoopsie. Well, something always goes unexpectedly wrong.

- Pet UI disappearing. Like we needed more pet issues? Luckily it has been resolved (we hope). Let us know if it happens again.

We've fixed several of the top reported issues and they will go in tomorrow morning's patch unless those damn Dwarfs start singing again:

- Continued improvements to monster "lagginess" when being hit by a ranged attack. Monsters will respond much more quickly to aggression. Ranged monsters won't constantly pause at odd times without attacking.

- Fixed an issue in seeing loot sparkles in RvR that were unlootable.

And thanks to everyone's help, we're hot on the heels of two more:

- Crashing when leaving scenarios.

- Unattackable monster states. Hopefully we'll get this one locked down soon, it really is a pain in the butt.

So, that's the quick update. Having almost 50K players in the game currently and no game crashes makes this quite a successful start to the Open Beta. We'll open more servers as necessary and continue looking at all the major issues. Please keep reporting bugs and answering surveys that's how we get some of our information.

As always, thanks for your patience and hopefully soon your patronage.

Folks,

Well, things have been, as usual, busy here at Mythic so I have lots of news to share. So, without further ado and no SNL references, here's the update on my update:

1) Significantly improved NPC pathing - Okay, in all fairness it wouldn't have taken much to improve on what we showed you folks during the PW. However, the NPC pathing is back to where it needs to be and while it still isn't perfect, well, it's a heck of a lot closer than it was just a short time ago. We identified a whole lot of bugs and squashed them.

2) Improved pet commands and responsivness - Well, pretty much same as above. Pets will no longer act as if obeying an order from you was the last thing in this world that they wanted to do.

3) Fixed an issue with textures blurring - Nothing like looking at textures through a blurred lens to make things look really sharp eh? Major improvements in and more OTW.

4) Enhanced Global Cooldown Mechanic - Well, for one the GCD actually shows the correct cooldown time and not the rounded up cooldown time (Hey, what a great idea, let's make it seem slower than it is. WOOT!). The slop timer is working fine right now and we'll continue to look at making the GCD and combat in general more responsive.

5) Continuing to improve Client Stability - As always, lots of fixes going in here. The client is supposed to be more stable (and looks like it so far) but until we get the masses back in...

6) Added new Graphics Settings and seeking more feedback from testers to guide future improvements. You asked for it, you got it. Well, in all fairness we were going to put these in anyway but it never hurts to nudge us a bit at times.

7) Target Nearest Target improved - Yeah! One of my pet peeves addressed.

8) Renown Gear changes and Potency of Potions increased. Tweaking, adding, subtracting, in other words (don't say "nerf", we're still in beta!) balancing.

9) Increased bonus for medal winners in PQs. PQs are supposed to be fun, joyous and not grindy. We'll continue tweaking and changing them wherever we need to do that to make it so #1. (okay, a ST reference)

10) Added more loot bags in Tier 1 PQs - Boy, it's going to be rather crowded when we launch so we just upped the loot for the Tier 1 PQs. We'll do the same to T2 as needed. And when the rush is over, we'll tweak downwards.

So, in terms of some other good stuff, lots and lots and lots of bugs fixed and lots of new stuff added to the ToK. But wait, there's more and we'll address some of it next week as well as more coming info in the next update.

Oh, and there's still no such thing as a miracle patch so don't expect one here. Just a ton of fixes, additions and adjustments. We have another major patch coming as well before launch. We don't believe in miracle patches (miracle whip is a whole other subject) here at Mythic but simply hard work and a talented team.

Much respect to my team that is really doing one heck of a job getting things ready for launch.

Mark

It should give you a general idea if WAR is a MMO for you.

The development team at Mythic took as their goal to build a game around the Realm vs. Realm combat that marked the best part of their previous game, Dark Age of Camelot. Rather than forcing players to go through a PvE leveling process that ultimately ends up being meaningless as everyone rushes toward the endgame, they wanted to create an MMO that was essentially "all endgame." Taking as their guide the Warhammer mantra that "War is everywhere," one of the biggest innovations in Warhammer Online is simply the level of integration between the various gameplay systems. PvE, PvP, RvR -- they all contribute to the ultimate end game of raiding and looting the enemy cities.

Everything begins as soon as players logs in to his or her level 1 character. The level 1-2 experience is the now-common 10-minute World of Warcraft-style tutorial in which the player is given a simple quest to kill some nearby mobs. Once players hit level 2, though, things start to change. Rather than being guided on a strictly linear path through a PvE the newbie zone, level two suddenly offers the player a half-dozen quests to perform in a much wider area. Some are indoors and some outdoors. Some require the player to utilize stand-alone gun emplacements, some require the player to explore and others are simply fast moving killing quests. The key is that the Warhammer Online experience almost immediately gets broader, not deeper. From their first few levels, players are educated in the fact that there's always somewhere to go and something interesting to do, no matter where they are.

This is reinforced through the rapid introduction of three more gameplay elements -- the Tome of Knowledge, Public Quests and Scenario RvR. The player first becomes aware of the Tome when he or she approached the first quest giver. In addition to getting a quest, there's always something in the area that gives players their first Tome unlock. The Empire starting area, for example, gives players entries on "The Empire," "The Plague," and "The Griffin Legion" along with entries on "Chaos," "Chaos Marauders" and several other creatures in the immediate area. Getting a message about them on the screen and seeing the glowing book at the top of the screens encourages the player to explore this vital part of the game.

It's a fully featured database resource for Mythic Entertainment's Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. We're all gamers at the Curse Network, and we have certain desires for information that can be found on a game. In the early years of MMOs, database websites were considered a nicety. Now that times have changed, in many cases they've become expected, and our goal is to meet the needs of gamers head-on to provide the most comprehensive, feature rich database website possible.

Contributing to WARDB is easy and allows you to not only submit item, NPC, quest and many other pieces of data, but it also uploads your character information, unlocking several cool features on the website. To contribute data, you'll need to install the Curse Client; it's free, light weight, and allows you to manage all of your game addons, get the most recent gaming news, and upload screenshots you take with the client directly to Curse.com.

Here's a list of some of the things you can find on WARDB now. Keep in mind, WARDB is very much still in beta, so we'll be adding and refining many sections of the site as Warhammer Online closes in on launch. Your feedback during this process is invaluable to us, so please do not hesitate to comment on anything you think could be better, or any ideas you have for new features.

Guild Profiles
Guild Profiles are in an early phase of beta right now, but you can find a full list of guilds who contribute data to WARDB, as well as their basic profile. This includes the guild rank, its progress in that rank, total guild renown, a roster, and the latest guild news directly from the game. You'll also be able to use our filter system to search based on server, member count, rank, and of course the name. Head over to Blunt Logic's profile to check it out! Please let us know what you'd like to see on Guild Profiles in the future; while we can't promise every suggestion will be possible, guilds are a very important part of Warhammer Online, so we want to make sure this section of WARDB feels very special to players.

Character Profiles
Character Profiles allow you to show off your character in all its glory. Not only will you be able to see all of the items you own, but you'll also see a breakdown of all of your attributes on the base character pane. In addition to this, you'll also see a list of all of your unlocked Achivements, available Titles, and your progress in each and every Influence path available in the game!

But there's more; below you'll find Loot History for your character -- displaying all of the most recent items your character has obtained, your Guild Roster if you've joined one, and other users will even be able to comment on your character! Want to thank someone you grouped with in a keep siege for doing a great job? You can, and it's easy! Head over to Adamar's profile to check out the current iteration of character profiles.

Battlefield Map
The Battlefield Map allows you to check up on the progress of each specific battlefield in the game, so you can keep tabs on the state of your specific server's campaign even while not playing! You'll be able to, at a glance, see the status of each keep and battlefield objective for every battlefield available. Check out Marshes of Madness on Mad Dog Pass for an example!

Career Builder
The Career Builder is just one piece of the puzzle for planning out your characters on WARDB. It allows you to set up Mastery builds outside of the game and then share those builds with other players. Each of the 20 classes are represented, with Mastery data directly from the latest version of the game! Head over and give it a try; the URL in your browser will update every time you make a change, allowing you to copy and paste it wherever you'd like to show off your specific build. We have more features coming for the Career Builder as Warhammer Online nears release, so be sure to keep checking back!

Renown Builder
The Renown Builder is a very handy tool for RvR fans who want to map out their Renown progression before committing to it in-game. Not only will you be able to plan out your point distribution through each tier of the system, but you'll also be able to submit your Renown builds to WARDB as a "Preset Build" -- allowing other users to view your build and comment and rate them! Head over and get started now!

Items
No database is complete without an Items section, so we've focused heavily on ensuring information is provided in a concise manner, but also allowing very robust filtering. If you want to find Rare quality Squig Herder items that grant an Initiative bonus, you can. The Items section is also broken down into Weapons, Armor, Item Sets and much more, so head over and get started!

Quests
The Quests section holds all of the information you'll need to decide if a quest is worth doing for you, before you even come across it. You'll be able to at a glance see the quest name, its location, the side that can complete it, and all of its rewards. The details page for quests goes even more in-depth, giving all objectives and descriptions. Using the menu and quest filters, you can choose how you want to find quests in a fairly robust manner.

There's also a section for Public Quests that allows you to check out the details of a PQ and find other PQs in that area easily.

Zones
If you need to find out information on the various zones in Warhammer Online, then the Zones section is your new best friend! You'll be able to choose each of the campaign tiers to display for all three campaigns, as well as an overview of the cities for both Destruction and Order.

Once you're on a Zone Details Page, such as Ekrund, you'll have access to a map of the zone listing all Quests, Notable NPCs, and Landmarks in the area. Below that you'll find many tabs that contain information on the zone, such as Quests, Notable NPCs, Influence NPCs, Public Quests, and the Chapters unlocked in the zone. Of course, you'll also be able to leave comments and submit screenshots. Head over and check it out!

User Profiles
Once you've signed up at WARDB, you'll have a User Profile created for you. If you've already joined the Curse Network by signing up on Curse.com, CurseForge, WOWDB, or The Conan Armory then you don't need to sign up here too -- your account from those websites will work on WARDB immediately!

With a User Profile you'll be able to track all of your characters, view your discoveries, track comments you've left on the website, and view the comments on your profile, plus much more. Head over to Adamar's profile to check it out!

And more...

By this point you're probably absolutely overwhelmed by the amount of information available, so here's a quick list of the remaining features on WARDB.

Abilities

Actions

Morale Abilities

Tactics

Career Mastery

Renown Mastery

NPCs

Latest Additions

Latest Profiles

Latest Comments

As mentioned above, WARDB is still in beta, so any feedback provided is invaluable to the future of the database. Please feel free to visit our Bug Reporting & Feedback page at any time and drop us a line!
Folks,

As of now, the Non Disclosure portions of our Beta Testing Agreement is now officially lifted. From this point on players may now freely talk about their experiences in the game as well as post screenshots, videos, etc. We will be sending an email out to all our current players with full details about the lift over the next 24 hours. Players with access to our forums can also see the letter there. Players may not talk about nor reprint posts from our forums and our Test Servers (currently Deathsword) are still fully covered by the confidentiality portions of our Beta Testing Agreement. So, other than that, free feel to talk about and share your experiences in WAR.

My thanks go out to everyone who has beta tested and continues to beta test WAR. It has been with your help and feedback that WAR is where it is today. We really appreciate your effort.

WAR is almost upon us!

This has been up for a couple of days now but we wanted to make sure everyone was aware of it and made use of it for their convenience as it contains all the important information you need to know before and during your testing experience.

We know you're excited and we're looking forward to welcoming you all online. A Reckoning is coming - See you there...

Mythic Entertainment / Electronic Arts has posted a FAQ which covers most questions that people might have regarding pre-ordering Warhammer Online.

I live in Canada how can I pre-order?

You can pre-order your copy of WAR from FutureShop, EB Games Canada, the EA Store and other fine game retailers.

Where are my codes when I pre-order online?

Each retailer may do it differently, we have no control over the distribution of their codes to pre-order customers. However, you will generally receive a separate email specifically containing your codes (in some cases I've seen it take a few days). Please do not contact EA Mythic Customer Support concerning this - you must contact your retailer as we will be unable to assist you further.

What is the difference between Closed Beta and Open Beta?

The Closed Beta Test is an invite-only program protected by a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) in which a select portion of the community is chosen to test the beta version of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning and offer feedback directly to the development team via in-game tools and private message boards. During our Open Beta, we open testing up to a much larger audience. However, unlike many traditional "Open Betas," WAR will only be available to a limited number of players (including pre-order customers). Stay tuned for more details concerning the WAR Open Beta and ways in which you can get in.

Do I need my CE Product Key the day the game launches?

While we encourage you to get your WAR product key as soon as possible, we will provide a reasonable grace period for players to get a hold of their copies and have uninterrupted service following the Live Game Head Start.

What if I already pre-ordered?

Prior to March 26, 2008 no pre-order programs have been supported by EA Mythic. Please check with your retailers for full details. Current pre-order offers are only valid with the Collectors Edition.

Mythic/EA is stating that the FAQ will be updated regulary, check it out in all its glory here.
