  • About Binder
  •

Binder is a keybinds profile manager that stores per-character keybinding profiles, allowing you to restore the bindings specifically set for a given character automatically when logging in as that character.

If a profile exists for a given character, as soon as you log into that character, it will load up its profile and restore all of the keybindings associated with it.

If you've never yet logged in to a given character with Binder installed, it will simply create a profile for it with the same bindings as the previous character you played.

If you want to verify that Binder is properly functioning, open the Key Mapping window - the title text should include an indicator of the currently active profile, along the lines of "Key Mapping (Profile: ______)".

NOTE: if you use a localized client and have character names with non-ascii characters in them, Binder might always load a profile called "default" instead of a character-specific one. You can make this "default" profiled saved per-character, however, by following the instructions in the Addon FAQ sticky in this forum to turn on WAR's save_settings_per_character option.

Can't edit posts, bummer. Aiiane here are the patch notes for the UI Profiles:

"This will allow customization of addons and UI layout on an individual-character basis."

From this I take it that key bindings were left out.

Hmm. I just tried enabling Binder and it seems to load up properly in 1.2.1.

I just installed this for the first time after 1.2.1 and I'm not getting the title name change for the Key Mapping window. Other than that I dont know if this does anything as there dont seem to be any instructions.

Binder shouldn't really be necessary now that the Character UI Profiles system has been added to the game, since the UI profiles now save keybindings as well.

Aiiane as far as i can tell the profiles do not save key bindings. Kinda makes sense since key bindings were not added as a tab under the UI Customization dialog and are still an independent option.

To test this I created profiles for each of my characters and every time I switched character they had the key bindings of the previous character. If there is something I'm missing I'd be glad to hear it.

    and

"Please note that this is only the first iteration of the character profile system. We are working to add new features, including the ability to save keybindings, as part of the profile."

From this I take it that key bindings were left out. Please update Binder until key bindings are supported.

    Bug:

For some reason, my "F" and "E" keys are remapping to nothing after switching toons.

    1) Save settings to Toon1 with "E" and "F" remapped to "Move Forward" and "Strafe Right", respectively
    2) Log into Toon2, make no changes to "E" or "F" and save
    3) Log back into Toon1, both keys should be set to nothing

Found what may be the issue. It doesn't seem to save settings for "Move Forward", "Strafe Right", etc. in the SavedVariables.

I know you are a prodigious crafter of addons for the game, so please don't take this even remotely as any kind of demand, but merely a request if it isn't too far out of your way to do. I really like this addon and find it essential, but I think that I would also like to see a reorganization of the listing of the keys into something that makes more sense besides simple alphabetical order. For instance, list the hotbar keys in ordinal order so that they go Hotbar Key 1, Hotbar Key 2, Hotbar Key 3, and not Hotbar Key 1, Hotbar Key 10, Hotbar Key 2 etc. Also if we could group similar keybindings together (like Movement Keys, Hotbar1 Keys, etc) and in such a way that they are hidden in a drop down list so we don't have to scroll quite so much. Right not, the simple alphabetical listing makes things a little bit difficult. Anyway, something to think about, and I think it meshes with your small changes that enhance the feel of the game.
