About Busted
Busted is a tracker for UI errors. It consolidates them into an easy-to-use interface, while breaking them down by addon for easy reference.
Busted isn't just for addon developers - regular addon users are encouraged to install it as well in order to provide better feedback to authors when they discover bugs in a released addon.
Setup
Busted has basically no setup. It works out of the box, and has no complicated configuration options to worry about. The only thing you might consider changing is where the mini alert GUI appears - it starts out near the bottom-right corner of the screen, but if you prefer it somewhere else, just open up the Layout Editor, find it there (it's labeled "Busted") and move it somewhere else.
If you prefer to not have the small alert frame showing, you can hide it in the Layout Editor, but to open/close the main window without it you'll have to type /script BustedGUI.ToggleMainWindow() (or make a macro for it).
Usage
- Busted will record the first 100 errors of each set. After that it will stop recording errors for that particular set, but continue recording errors for other modules up to 100 for each. This is to prevent storing too many mass-generated errors for no particular reason [typically, only the first few errors for a given addon are useful, the others just stemming from the original error(s)].
Mini Alert GUI
- This starts out with green text if no errors have occured.
- When an error occurs, the text will change to red and begin flashing, as well as displaying how many errors have been recorded.
- Left-clicking the mini GUI will toggle the main Busted window, as well as mark all errors up to that point as "acknowledged", turning the text green again and stopping the flashing.
- Right-clicking the mini GUI will mark the errors as acknowledged, but will not toggle the visibility of the main window.
Main Busted Window
- The drop-down box at the top allows you to select which addon you're viewing errors for. (There's also a "Non-addon specific" category for errors which didn't specify what module caused them.)
- Once you've selected a set of errors to view, the current error number and total number of errors in that set will be displayed in the upper right.
- You can use the - and + buttons in the upper right to change which error you're viewing within the current set.
- The text of the current error will be displayed in the main text box. You can click in the box and then use Ctrl+C to copy the contents to the clipboard. (If you accidentally de-select the text, use Ctrl+A first to select it all.)
- The time at which an error initially occurred will be listed in the bottom left corner.
- If an error occurred multiple times in a row, Busted will condense it down to a single listing but will display how many times the error was repeated in the bottom right.
Known Issues
- Sometimes when selecting all of the text in the main text box, it will look like only part of it is highlighted, when in reality the entire text is indeed selected. This is a bug with the core textbox objects themselves, and not actually an issue with Busted's code.
- Note to advanced users: don't turn on the Function Calls logging feature while Busted is running. It's a Bad Idea(tm). If you really want to look at the function call logs, turn Busted off first.
