  • About CareerText
  •

CareerText attaches enemy career info to the default hostile and friendly target frames. It also changes the default color of the enemy player name from the hostile red to an easier to read off-white/gray.

CareerText requires LibCareerDB to get and store enemy class data.

Gollomhonk told me that you mod got career info of targets without seeing them in scenarios first. But I can't get it to work. Also I can't use this and squared at the same time. Please help.

  • Using Squared myself and it works fine. CareerText only displays on the hostile/friendly targets. Career captures work by two methods: in scenarios and in groups. That's the only time career information is made available to the client.

So Gollomhonk was wrong? I can't get career info without seeing them in a scenario first?

If that is the case I will just use target info windows. It is easier to use and setup. Also works better.

The class icons would be an exceptional feature. I love this addon but having to read the text to determine which career I've selected is like the difference between owning an Analog or Digital watch. An analog watch you glance at and you immediately know what time it is... A digital watch you must look at and actually read to know. If you used the characters career icon you could save precious split seconds to recognize the career targeted.

If you want icons and colored text check out target info windows. It does both.

Way too much programming knowledge needed to use TargetInfoWindows. The readme even says that if you don't know how to do this ( required coding ) you need to do some research. It's enough to scare one back to WOW.
Addons should simply be dumped into the addons directory and - Tada! CareerText is great and doesn't require any personal coding... If it only had that career icon added somewhere on the window it would be the best.

What are you talking about: Target Info Windows is very very simple to use. Just plug and play. There isn't even a readme for it.

I think you are talking about the library it uses: LibTargetInfo. You don't have to know anything about a library to use it.

Yes the readme is for the library that TargetInfoWindow uses (sorry). The read me talks about placing "Dependency" statements in some ".mod" file and then there are some elaborate coding examples suggesting better places to place code over other places. I'm going to ignore the readme and do as you suggest... just install TargetInfoWindow and the Library and try running it as is. Hopefully the readme info isn't needed. If it is true, maybe you should have a readme telling others to ignore the readme that comes with the library.

  • As I said, placing something similar to the small icon that attaches to the default party window or scenario summary screen isn't that difficult. I just don't see the purpose in doing it that way. Replacing the skull/bird in the potrait window (which is what I wanted to do) with something that looks good is more time consuming.

Does your addon work with Clean Unit frames and other things like it, or just the default War Stuff?

    Reply Report Permalink
  • I looked into this the other day and while it would be easy enough to use small circle that's on the group grame, these didn't scale well when I attempted to replace the bird/skull. At the moment, it's not a feature i'll be adding until I have more time to see if I can get it to look OK.

Any way to share/merge databases? What files is the info stored in? Would like to try to merge databases with other guys in the guild to try to build a server size DB of careers.

The floating text seems to put both the enemy target and the friendly target in the same box, probably a simple typo.

Anyone able to get the class in normal zones? I get them just fine when I'm in a scenario, but anywhere else it doesn't show up...

If this is the norm, any chance you could get this to work outside scenarios?

    Otherwise fantastic addon!

  • You will only see class detail outside scenarios if you have played against that player in a scenerio. By default, WAR doesn't make this info easily available and LibCareerDB was designed to retrieve this information and store it between sessions. This is all done auto-magically so all you need to do is play. :D

I would like to see a floating text version of this mod, so you can use it with any unit frames. Great job with the library!
