  • About Chatter: Text Alerts
  •

Simple addon to display text alerts in the scrolling alert area when you recieve Tells, Scenario, Guild and Party messages. The alert is the actual message itself.

LibSlash is an optional addon that allows you to change the settings. The addon will work with the defaults without it, but it is highly recommended.

Usage:
/chatter [party|scenario|guild|tell|sound|mymsgs] [on|off]
/chatter [size] [small|medium|large|huge]

Examples:
/chatter party off = turns party notifications off
/chatter mymsgs off = won't display text messages you write
/chatter size huge = sets the text alerts to huge
/chatter sound on = adds a small sound to the alert

Update 10/4:
-- Color of alert will be as that used in chat box for each type
-- Officer and Warband now in separate alerts
-- Added support for Alliance and Alliance Officer

  • I have the same problem as simonappleton. /chatter mymsgs off isn't working. It shows that own messages are off but i still get the sound and text.

But anyways it's a good mod i love because i never notice when someone is writing :D

Can't seem to get this to do anything. I've switched /chatter tell on, /chatter size huge , /chatter sound on and got acknowledgements confirming that the settings are set, but when I send a /tell it just comes up as standard sized text in the chat box with no sound.

Was hoping to use this for Warband Commnad messages but so far it doesn't seem to do anything.

i am in the same boat bro, cant get the mymsgs to turn off.

:\ overall a cool mod though, with a config UI this would be solid.

  • New revision will likely fix this problem. Added LibSlash as a dependency, so the slash command should register correctly .

  • Sadly not - still get my own party and guild chat appearing, despite /chatter mymsgs off

I'm running UK client, if that helps. Have got Libslash.

I really liked this addon, hope it will be updated and un-broken soonly! ^_^

  • If you are experiencing issues, please provide some details about what is broken or open a ticket. This is the author and I haven't experienced any issues. As I noted below, an older version of LibSlash got borked. Is that the cause?

well why does it have to be different addon? just add the ability to monitor a custom channel, please? sugar on top!

    Reply Report Permalink
  • Ahh... It could, but that's not functionality I am going to add. I decided that a system for Raid style alerts would be better in a separate addon.

very interested if this can be set-up to use a custom channel for raidwarning style message for not only a warband up perhaps when trying to get multiple warbands to work together. "join /chan SolarRaid1 for Text alerts!"

  • If you are getting an "unknown command: /chatter" error message, the issue is with LibSlash. Try updating it and see that addon's thread for help.

When I send a tell I get a double message.

I have tried "/chatter mymsgs off" both ways, no change.

  • Your welcome to make edits to the .lua file itself to adjust the color. Look for this line:

    DefaultColor.AlertTextColors["ChatterColorForGroup"] = { r = 40, g = 220, b = 40 }

Then just change the vales for "r", "g" and "b" to adjust the Red, Green, and Blue. Minimum value is 0, max value is 255.

Ideally, the color scheme would pull from what the color in the chat frame but I haven't gotten around to looking for where those are stored.

Is there a setting to change the color setting? It would be nice to have chats on the guild channel be blue, party chat be green, etc. Help keep things organized in my head......

  • I'll look into it. Perhaps something for Warband leaders and Assistants. Nothing immediate, but I can see adding a raid leader/warning type thing.

Interesting, I am thinking it would be good to have this broken out, but I will test it out and see.

Also, would it be able to filter this by an individual. For example we have a large guild, not everyone is in Voice Chat, so we like to relay basic commands via the warband, but because people are too busy killing and not reading the Warband leaders commands, commands get missed. If we could specify individuals (like warband leaders) via the addon it would be great.

    Hopefully that made sense...

  • Warband chat is included in the group alert and Guild-Officer is included in the guild alert. I have yet to decide whether or not to break these out into separate alerts. I do anticipate I'll need to add Alliance/Alliance Officer.
