ColorTips

I've changed my mentality about how I'm going to do addons from this point forward. I've spoken with a few people at curse and I understand that there is still room for my addons in the community however I've never been a fan of in-game configuration options so from today onward every single one of my addons will not have any in-game configuration. If you want to add or change something please take the time to either learn lua and change it yourself, or come talk to me in IRC, if it is something that I feel would be a great feature I will have no problem adding it, but I'm tired of the nagging remarks and constant "I want wow addons in war" crap.

Information

Changes the color of the tooltip's border depending on item rarity.

I take it this one is still broken?

Since 1.1a I can't see no tooltips of items in my bag or in my character when this addon is active.
But the rest of tooltips(NPCs, enemies, players) still work.

This addon breaks item tooltips in 1.1a.

    hello,
if you use this mod, the border color ist the same color of the item rarity (when a green item, the border green. a blue item, the border blue.)
nice little special think, thank you for this mod.

  • So -- what the hell does this thing do? The description is terrible.

Out of curiousity, why are people arguing over whether an author wants to listen to feedback or not? If you don't like it, no one is forcing you to use the addon, I'm sure you can find other authors who are more amenable to your feedback. Why create drama?

Honestly, as I've said before several times, it's not really about listening to feedback or not, it's about sounding like an asshat about it in the desc.

"but I'm tired of the nagging remarks and constant "I want wow addons in war" crap"
    -- unnecessary whining

"If you want to add or change something please take the time to either learn lua and change it yourself..."
-- with the rest of the context of the desc, instead of being a simple gesture it makes it sound like Adalyn thinks he/she/it is better than everyone else

Overall, if you read the "disclaimer" with at least 40% of an attention span, it comes off as a over explained "working as intended so **** off". In the end, I think if Adalyn were to word his/her/it's explanation a bit better and NICER it wouldn't be receiving all the flak that it has been.

I'm still curious as to why the "if you don't like it, ignore it" maxim doesn't apply regardless.

ChaosInc: I don't need to pull addons for other people to make something similar. If someone makes an alternative thats fine, I will still update mine in case someone wants to use them. It isn't about five minutes of fame or anything like that, and it isn't about not wanting to accept the communities advice. I made an addon called LetterBox that I don't even use because people asked for it. But when people try and pull the mod astray from what I want it to be that's just too far, they can modify it if they want to but I shouldn't have to do that. So I will keep my addons here, and you can continue to call me selfish or whatever you want. However I'm giving up my time to do this, no one pays me, I hardly get any thanks but I still do it because I enjoy it.

"These addons aren't made for the community; but for me"

Then don't submit them to the community, or be prepared to face scrutiny for being "selfish". Just the way it works, sad to say.

"..people tell me that they think these addons would be useful..."

I find this hypocritical. You won't let people convince you to make your mods better, but you'll let people convince you to post them even though you obviously don't want to? It's like letting yourself be convinced to jump off a bridge, but refusing to accept the advice of taking a bungee cord.

Although Wiggins does provide a point though. If you don't want to exist as part of the mod author community, then why are you doing so? If you're not willing to let others help ya out and stick to just "what you want", then you really shouldn't be submitting mods to the public at all. As I said before, just pull your projects and let them be replaced by people who actually WANT to participate in the community. Should only take a day or two. Right now I get the feeling that you're just submitting them to try and get your 5 minutes of fame.

Personally, I commend you for lasting this long against such scrutiny from a community that you obviously don't give two **** about. I would've pulled my projects and moved on by now. And yes, I do still respect your view on it. Your delivery still sucks, however.

Wiggins: I'm here to play the game, I do play the game. From there I take what I thinks should be made into an addon, and make it. These addons aren't made for the community; but for me. I often have people tell me that they think these addons would be useful so I put them up on curse in case people want to use them. I really am sick of people not seeming to understand that I make these addons first and foremost for myself, if you or anyone else wants to use them that is your choice but it isn't my job or responsibility to provide you with features that I don't find necessary.

"I've never been a fan of in-game configuration options."
"I'm tired of the nagging remarks and constant "I want wow addons in war" crap."

These sentences help to identify the actual community minded addon authors who take their own personal time to benefit a community of players who may be less knowledgeable than they.

The bastions of successful and popular WoW addon authors who've created the iconic addons that the current WAR fanbase is "nagging" about have probably had to deal with countless flames, nags, and criticisms. You've dealt with them for roughly two weeks.

You're not a community minded addon author. Why you exist as a portion of this community, I won't even bother to figure out.

It's one thing to let the people know how you're going to do something from here on out, or how they can change things themselves, but you've made it sound like you're some sort of defeated castle of addon creation.

Sad to see that such little things forced such a defeatist attempt at contributing to a community.

I believe this mod breaks some tooltips in the renown trainer screen. Also doesn't work on "Currently Equipped:" tooltips. It would be a really nice addon with those fixes!

Well, ChaosInc. It's Adalyn's time, not yours. If you dont like an Addon, dont use it. Be glad, that Adalyn actually shares his time. Even if he only uploads an Addon which he wrote for his personal use. Not yours.

Beside this, you can ask for features, i am sure. And if he like this feature he will maybe add it. He just said, he wont make options. He adjust the addon how HE like it, and if YOU dont like it, then just adapt it to YOUR need.

But why should he use HIS time, so the Addon is how YOU like it? Do you pay for his time?
