  • About DwarfTalk
  •

This addon takes your non-command chat and translates it into Dwarven speak, or at least into an Irish/piratey-accented form of English that resembles what an English-speaking Dwarf would be expected to say. You can turn this on and off on the fly without removing the addon. You can also choose to only translate specific sentences you write, or only for specific channels like /guild and /say.

This addon requires the LibSlash addon to function.

- To prevent an individual line of text from being translated, put either a ' ' (space) or '((' (double parentheses) before the text.
- To force translation on a line of text while translation is disabled, put an '_' (underscore) before the text.

The different commands:

/dwarf on
/dwarf off
/dwarf disablechan
/dwarf enablechan
/dwarf help

See the readme file for details.

Original credit goes to tmpst of the original German/English "Orcanizer" addon, and to Shryke of the redone OrcTalk addon.

can't get /dwarf disablechan to work.

Getting the error that the channel isn't recognised. Looking at the code the activeChannel is producing nil.

This is happening on all channels.

  • Any chance of getting something like this for old english or shakespere type language for Empire characters? I currently use this for my Empire character and like it for the most part but I feel it cuts out more vowels then I would cut out as a human.

When I tried to install it it didn't come up on my add ons menu. What's the deal with that? Help please! :)

I only want this to work in Say, but it refuses to save the disabled channels.

Can't use it, I guess. Too much of an annoyance.

I love this mod, but I would like know if is a way to add my own words? I do not know the lua language, but I could see that Translate.lua held the dictionary so to speak. I added the following in alphabetically & same syntax as you had it laid out:
["death to orcs"] = "Uzkul A urki!",
["death to the orcs"] = "Uzkul a urki!",
It still continued to translate, but did not change into the new phrase. I would appreciate any help you could provide.

Excellent fun mod, even if it does make for some really ugly sentences sometimes. ;) You might do something with the word "didn't" (either di'n't or didna, I can't decide which would be more appropriate, but I do notice wouldn't becomes wou'n't). It would also be nice if it preserved caps (so it doesn't lowercase the first word of a sentence), but that's quibbling and probably not worth the code to implement. Also nice would be an addition to not translate words in parentheses, since on RP servers people often identify out-of-character speech by enclosing it in (( )).

As of 1.1.1, capitalization for the first letter of each word is preserved, as well as capitalization for every letter in the word if it's done entirely in capital letters. Acronym users, shift key fans, and overly excited people everywhere, rejoice. :)

Lines of text beginning with the OOC characters '((' (double parentheses) will no longer be translated.

And the word 'didn't,' as well as several other words and phrases, now have translations.

Scratch that. With the newest version, you can now set it to disable channels that you don't want to have your text translated in. Just set your current channel (type in it) and then do '/dwarf disablechan' :)

    Undo with '/dwarf enablechan'.

You can add underscores to the beginning of everything you type into /say, but at the moment translation based on channel name does not work.

Can you set it so that it only works in the 'say' channel? Or something like that?
