  • About GroupAssistant
  •

This addon is to assist in managing parties and warbands.

In this description I will use the term "group" to apply to both parties and warbands. Unless otherwise specified, any features apply to both.

All options are configurable from the party options window, as shown in the screenshot. Note that if you are in a warband, you can either right click your own portrait and select "Party Options", or if you right click in the warband parties frame it's under "Warband Looting Options". The settings will NOT show under "Show Warband Options".

Features:

  • Use the Locations window to quickly see the location of group/warband members.
  • Send a one time message, repeat at certain intervals (no less than 5 minutes) or when the group activity changes with the groups purpose, career/level requirements, spaces left and how to join.
  • Set the current and next activity by clicking on objectives or keeps in the world map.
  • Option to send the message when the groups activity changes will auto-update when an objective is captured or defended.
  • Choose the channel to use between Guild, Alliance, Region, Region RvR, private tells, say, shout and warband.
  • Set a password for closed groups. It's included in the broadcast message, when they send it you in a tell they get an invite.
  • Define what classes and levels you are looking for.
  • Don't want to spam guild chat? Set it to use tells and it will send the message in a tell when friends and guildmates log on if they match any class/level requirements. Will not send to the same person more often than the time you specify as the interval.
  • Repeated message stop when the group or warband is full, unless otherwise specified.
  • If somebody sends you the password after the group is full, it remembers who they are and will invite them when a space opens up.
  • View the list of pending invitations, right click on a person to send them a tell or remove them from the list.

Slash Commands :

/gaa [activity] - short cut to set group/warband activity, e.g. /gaa attacking the keep
/ga sendnow - sends the broadcast message right now
/ga zone - bring up the group/warband member location window
/ga pending - bring up the window showing pending invitations
/ga options - bring up the options window independent of the group options.

Caveats :

  • If you have class/level restrictions and a non-guildmember sends you the password, they won't get an invite if they are anonymous or hidden.
  • If you are in a warband, you must be the warband leader or select the "Allow warband broadcast" option to broadcast.
  • If you are made the leader of an existing warband, it may not know the correct public/private setting. Click the Open Warband checkbox until it is at the correct setting.

Could it be possible that this addon does not work with 1.2 ?

Im going to reset my addons to see if it fixes Group Assistant. I love this addon but after the latest release.. doesn't seem like its working like it used to. It still sends out notifications even when the warband is full. It no longer says /join suchandsuch

If reseting all my addons fixes this, then ill followup with a confirmation otherwise the latest changes didn't implement well on 2.3.09

Confirmed. I reset all addons and started from clean slate and still had the following issues:
-- when warband is full, broadcasting is still being sent even though options says it will notify when full.
-- selecting specific class types for the broadcast hosed the window so that the X in the corner vanished and could not be clicked, so I couldn't close the window
-- selecting specific class types also caused the "additional options" window to be blank after clicking button to open it.

Thats all I recorded before I had to disable the addon. Let me know what other details / screenshots you need to assist in debugging.

For the first point, I assume you meant that it still sends when full when the options are set to NOT broadcast when full?

Did you use the /ga options command to bring up the window by itself, or did you bring up the party options window?

    1. Yes, that is correct. It still sends out "looking for more members etc" when the options are set NOT TO broadcast when full.

    2. "additional options" window is what wouldn't close because the "X" in corner vanished (actually looks like the entire border for that window vanishes) . I've only used /ga options to bring up the window to manage the GA Settings, which i consider to be the main Ga Options window. The "additional options" window is only accessed via a button on the GA Options Window and is the one that wouldn't close or display any options.

the more options tab and location tab just plain don't work, they come up blank for me. Also this feature of being able to click on bo's or keep feature just doesn't work at all for me. Bug or am I doing something wrong?

Would you be able to provide a screenshot of the blank windows?

thx for the fast response, I went on today and now it works, don't know why but it does. There was a patch so maybe it fixed something for me. Either way thx you for getting back to me, awesome work on the mod....keep up the good work!

Great addon! An additional utility would be to be able to easily promote people to warband assistants to help manage groups around instead of having to type /warbandpromote name each time.

  • One major issue I have .. maybe someone can help. I love this add-on. The only problem is that if someone send me a /tell, they get an autoinvite to the group. I would love to turn off the autoinvite function as an option. I chat a lot, and i end up kicking a lot of people who never should have had an autoresponse.

They shouldn't get an invite unless the password text is in the message. In the next update I will set it so that if the password is blank, it will not invite (currently if the password is blank, it will invite on anything) but in the meantime you can set it to something that's perhaps a bit more obscure.

Do you need any other addons with this addon? I try to use /ga zone and other such options but it doesn't work.

You need LibSlash to use the slash commands.

Unit frames are pure. WarBoard across the top. zMiniMap for the map. NAMBLA on the action bars. Chatty Cathy for the chat boxes. The compass comes from Map Monster Navigator.

0.5.1-beta now includes the ability to set the next objective from the map as well as the current. This will auto-update the activity as objective states changes i.e.

"attacking SomeObjective" to "holding SomeObjective for 3 minutes, then moving to "SomeOtherObjective" and finally "attacking SomeObjective" after 3 minutes. This will broadcast as it happens if you check the broadcast on activity change option.

You can now set warband as the output channel, obviously this trims all the join information and only outputs the actual activity.

It will now use the group/warband leader's name in the /join message instead of your own for open groups and warbands. This seems a little nicer to me, even though the /join will work on anyone.

This finishes off the major features I wanted to get into this release, I'll leave it in beta for a few days to see if any bugs surface but then I will push it into release. I have some more features planned, but I won't put anything up about that just yet.

This is a cool addon. Personally, I don't do much spam inviting. Either I put together a group via guild chat or it's open.

But what is most intriguing to me is the Group Member Location window in your screenshot. Great for booting lamers who chain run scenarios while in a WB without constantly having to run /who's on your group members.

Do you have any plans/interest in releasing that as a stand alone addon? The loc info itself is very useful, but it would be super convenient to be able to kick from within that window via a one-click button or rclick. I think a lot of people would find that quite handy. :)

There is a kick button on the window. Just select a player and click it and they should be booted, as long as you are the warband leader of course.

I don't really have any plans to release it separately at the moment, but the other stuff won't do anything unless you tell it to, so it won't hurt anything by being there.

I'm now pushing out new feature versions tagged as beta. Please help test :)!

New features in 0.5-beta include ...
/ga options - show the options window independently of the party options window
/ga pending - show the pending invites window
Ability to set activity by clicking on an objective on the map.
Tooltips on options for more detailed information on what it does
New options to allow continued broadcast when group is full, whether or not to include the join information when full, broadcast when activity message changes and allow broadcasts when you are not the warband leader (assumes warband is open).
