  • Found the bug causing the settings to not save:
In the letterbox.mod file the variable name is LetterBoxSettings, but in the actual addon LetterBoxOptions is used.
Just change the name to LetterBoxOptions in the mod file and it saves.

  • Thanks Adalyn. I only had to edit in two numbers to save my preferred top and bottom letterbox sizes. I officially love this simple mod. I use Letterbox to make a thin black strip behind my WAAAGH bar so all of the info up there is easy to read, and to hide the transparent strip on the chat bar that shows the text I am typing. That one little transparent spot was driving me crazy. It felt so out of place.

Thank you for helping me to be less crazy. I appreciate the result of your efforts. :)

I can't control how mythic does their saved variables, If you are having problems try deleting the User/Interface/LetterBox folder that the savedvariable file is in.

  • I thought it was a viewport mod at 1st. I got all excited :)
    Still good job.

I have the same problem not saving settings between sessions. Either logout or /reloadui causes letterbox to reset to default. It's very frustrating. Any way to put commands in a macro to run every startup in the meantime?

If the settings are resetting for anyone else, it's very easy to edit the LUA file and just change the defaults to whatever settings you'd like. It's not ideal, but it works just fine.

Be sure to edit the defaults in /Interface/Addons/Letterbox/Letterbox.LUA, not /USER/Interface/etc/etc.

Awesome addon , but for some reason it wont save my settings. Every time I log in I have to change the bars again. Am I missing something or is this some sort of bug?

I wouldn't mind a patch for the latest patch.

Eloora: at the moment it's impossible to re-anchor the rendered window.

@ Adalyn, Is a real viewport type mod just not doable, or did you just want the letterbox look?

Scottckr: it is already on the lowest layer, I had to force the XpBar over it I'll add a fix for approx fps if it's possible. Opacity shouldn't be a problem either.

oh right another thing, put it on the lowest possible layer as some addons I've got such as ApproximateFPS get hidden behind the black areas :/

awesome man, just request: as majineko said, add option for opacity, and also an option for a border, like 1 or 2 pixel white

Any chance you could add an option for opacity?

So its my understanding that this mod does not in fact change the rendered area, such as CT Viewport for WoW, but simply places an opaque box at the top or bottom of the screen on top of the rendered images. Is that correct?

@ zonechaos This will be purely cosmetic as your graphics card will still be rendering the images even though they're not displayed.

  • Does this help improve frame rate? Does it reduce rendering or is it simply cosmetic?
