Every Sniper needs a Spotter. Spotter is a range test addon that displays a custom line of text that is attached to the target unit frame. This text will display if a specified spell is not castable due to range or line of sight.
Spotter works by testing if a specified ability is currently usable, so it requires you to set a Friendly or Hostile spells in order to "test" for range. Setup is simple and settings are saved by career type. There are up to four different range tests that can be performed. A long range and mid range test for both hostile and friendly targets.
By default, an "NR" is displayed if your long range spell has no range/los and "LR" is displayed when you are within long range, but your mid range spell is not castable yet. Custom text is possible using the slash commands and are saved by class.
Let's say that you have several spells at the 100 ft range and several at the 80ft range. You would want to set the long range to a 100 ft spell, and the mid range to an 80 foot spell. This would then display an NR when outside 100 ft, a LR when between 80 to 100 feet, and nothing when within 80ft.
The range spell(s) only needs to be set once, when you first configure the addon. If you don't set a type (friendly/hostile) for mid/long than it is ignored. You don't need to set for all of your spells, just the one(s) that you want to use to test for range.
Usage:
/spotter [hostile|friendly] [mid|long] [spell]
---> see usage example below for more detail
/spotter [mid|long] [text]
---> this customizes the text displayed for mid/long to your preference
/spotter [reset]
---> this resets all options back to defaults
Example:
/spotter hostile long Ignite
/spotter hostile mid Detonate
Since Ignite is a 100ft spell and Detonate is an 80ft spell, this would provide the exact same functionality as what I noted above for a Bright Wizard. Now let's change the text of what is displayed to be more suitable for the BW.
/spotter mid DoT
Now we would still display NR if no line of sight or outside 100 ft and display DoT if we are between 80-100 ft.
Requires LibSlash. I also highly recommend using this with my other addon CareerText.
