  • About TortallAddonChat
  •

TortallAddonChat is an addon to allow other addons to communicate. It maintains chat channels for the current group and for the player's guild, if any. Addons may send messages to either channel and TortallAddonChat will receive these messages and pass them on to the intended addon.

The goal is to provide a single mechanism for addons to share information with their counterparts used by other players.

Please Note!
TortallAddonChat joins two channels (if guilded, else one), usually numbered 3 and 4. At this time, the filters are not turned off automatically. To avoid spam from these channels, turn off these channels using the Filters menu option on the Chat window.

New in 1.1.0 TAC will now disable the filter for any channel it joins. The previous note only applies to older versions.

New in 1.1.1 Tweaked message sending, with the hope that it will perform better on slower machines.

Tortall, anyway you could get this back up and running and give us a small walkthrough, to get this (with DPSmeter) so we can see our groups DPS etc?
    We're really stuck on this.

    Would really appreciate any help.

awesome add on ... it would be even better with some small improvment as:

it should be possible to know the DPS for each encounter (for the player and for the other member of the group) without to reset it and it should be nice too to get the whole amount of damage done by the other member of the group (if someone reset his client and make just an only one big hit, then he gets a high dps but is totally useless to the party, if you understand what i mean)

Well it s just some important improvment that I see, else really nice :-)

I had to disable this particular addon due to /join and /leave spam. I would be constantly joining and leaving so much to the point that the game would tell me to stop spamming (Slow down and think before chatting or something like that)

  • I get it too but mine is more annoying..."You are already a member of that channel." ; "You are not a member of that channel."

Yes. I had to turn this off too because of the annoying join and leave spam that was almost constant. The only filter that worked for stopping that was the "say" filter, and I really have no desire not to see stuff from the "say" channel.

I use channel3 for a static guild channel, but TortallAddonChat randomly hijacks channel 3 now and then. It can be pretty annoying, since it hides the channel as well.
Any way to set TAC to use a specific channel ONLY?

Hi. I am using Squared and Tortall DPS and every time someone joins or leaves the warband, I get channel leave / join spam for channel 3, and on oRvR people are joining and leaving all the time, so the spam becomes very annoying, to the point where I have had to stop using this mod.

Is there any way to hide or prevent this channel join spam?

Still getting spam on channel 3, even though it shows up as disabled. Maybe a conflict with Chatty Cathy?

  • CC would not comflict with this as it doesnt try to handle any channels in this way.

If I remember correctly, to use custom slash commands (registered with libslash) in a macro you should write "/script slash(tdps toggle)" :)

OK, I've had a chance to look at the code, and LibSync does do group and guild channels, of a sort.

Perhaps my addon is redundant, though mine might be more efficient, as it doesn't have to look at all messages from the realm before deciding which ones are destined for the player receiving it. Also probably easier on lag, as the server doesn't have to send a message to every player using LibSync just to reach a handful of players.

Thank's for finding out :-) Great work!

How does TortallAddonChat differ from libsync?

Libsync maintains a global channel for your realm and one for your current zone.

TortallAddonChat maintains a channel for your guild and one for your current group.

I am sure there are other differences in implementation, and I am sure that the two projects could merge.

Yay! Sky for WAR ;-) I'm too unsure where the difference with libsync is.
