  • About WaaaghBar CastLatency
  •

CastLatency displays in WaaaghBar the latency reported for last ability cast: it does not update timedly, but only when a spell/ability is cast. This is not a ping indicator.

I found out that registering for event PLAYER_BEGIN_CAST I receive a parameter called averageLatency, so decided to write this small addon. I hope to find some other, more reliable way to get latency: I will update as soon as I find it.

    Thank you, Medikto :)
I'm not playing anymore (not enough time, atm), so I'm not reading these pages and I cannot update my addons... :(

mmm... it worked with v2.1 of WaaaghBar by Shakakaw... I haven't tested with ShockBeta clone yet. What version of WaaaghBar are you using?
Help me understand why it's not working for you... ^^

ps: remember that this is NOT a ping indicator. It only displays the average latency reported by the game client when using a spell/ability. WAR APIs do not expose yet a method to get network statistics...

I just had a chance to test it with latest ShockBeta WaaaghBar: it's working fine, except for the tooltip :) (I'll fix that asap, it's a small change...)

Actually I did not think about quartz, writing this addon: I just hoped to have a latency indicator, like default ping measurement in wow :) Unfortunately it's not yet a ping... I'm looking into a way to find it out.

And atm I noticed it is not the exact latency on a single spell, but it's an average over last few casts... So I think it may be somehow confusing to see it over the cast bar (that already uses this value in the display).

Wouldn't it make sense to modify the castbar with this rather than as a WaaaghBar plugin?

  • so in effect your attempting to write a WAR version of Quartz for WoW? that would be nice to have, it is to my understanding monitoring your latency with GCD and shows you when you can safely start next spell without interupting or canceling previous spell... however having it on the waaagh bar is a bit redundant when its more noticable on the actual castbar.

It seems to be an average latency computed on last few casts. I tested it some more, and it happened to have some seconds lag for a couple of minutes (problems with my wifi), then lag disappeared: the reported latency took a couple casts to lower again :/

So: it actually reports the latency, but it's an average over a few spells not the exact latency on last cast. :(

  • Anyone tried this yet?? is it a pretty decent indication of game latency?
