Here is a backup utility that will save your butt when an addon or something goes wrong with your user interface. This will back up your Cache, User, and Interface folders for easy disaster recovery of all your settings. This batch file can be run from any drive. I just keep it on my desktop.
Requires WinRar to be installed! If you run this without Winrar installed, this will open the WinRar download page. http://www.rarlabs.com/download.htm
Editing of this batch file is required to make it work!! Right click on War UI Backup and select Edit.
Here is what you may need to edit:
set WRDrive=c: (Drive where WinRar is installed)
set WARDrive=c: (Drive where Warhammer is installed)
set WRPath=Program Files\WinRAR (Winrar path)
set WARPath=Program Files\Electronic Arts\Warhammer Online Not the default path?
set WAREXE=warpatch.exe (Auto launch not working atm!)
set SBackupDrive=d: (Secondary backup location)
set SBackupPath=WAR UI Backup (Folder name for backups)
set LaunchWAR=no (Auto launch not working atm!)
set InfoLines=Yes (Add details to step output)
set Debug=no
I am not sure what the default install path for Warhammer is since I installed it on K:\Warhammer Online. Could someone please post in comments what the defalut path is please? Thanks!
Warhammer doesn't seem to be able to be launched from the command line. So launching is not working at this time.
To restore from backup just delete the User, Interface, and Cache folers. Then click on the rar file you want to restore and extract to the Warhammer Online folder. Start War with all your UI and settings restored!
Installation Guide
- Exit "Warhammer Online" completely
- Download the mod you want to install
- Make a folder on your desktop called "My Mods"
- Save the .zip/.rar files to this folder.
- If, when you try to download the file, it automatically "opens" it... you need to RIGHT click on the link and "save as..." or "Save Target As".
- Extract the file - commonly known as 'unzipping'
Do this ONE FILE AT A TIME!
- Windows
- Windows XP has a built in ZIP extractor. Double click on the file to open it, inside should be the file or folders needed. Copy these outside to the "My Mods" folder.
- WinRAR: Right click the file, select "Extract Here"
- WinZip: You MUST make sure the option to "Use Folder Names" is CHECKED or it will just extract the files and not make the proper folders how the Authors designed
- Verify your WAR Installation Path
That is where you are running WAR from and THAT is where you need to install your mods.
- Move to the Addon folder
- Open your Warhammer Online folder. (default is C:\Program Files\Warhammer Online\)
- Go into the "Interface" folder.
- Go into the "AddOns" folder.
- In a new window, open the "My Mods" folder.
- The "My Mods" folder should have the "Addonname" folder in it.
- Move the "Addonname" folder into the "AddOns" folder
- Start Warhammer Online
Translations
When you download a mod, please be sure that the mod is compatible with your translation of WAR. Some mods only work on the US versions, while some only work on some of the various European versions. These variations are called "Localizations".
